First Impression |
ZWORM |
I have to admit that this controller just looked impressive coming out of the box. It has a slew of features like a throttle wheel, mini-joystick axis lock, and a 10 foot cord. This little guy packs it all in a slightly larger, but well laid out product. |

When I first grabbed the box and started checking out the features I thought, 'Yeah Baby!'. I couldn't wait to drop into a half-pipe on ESPN Winter Games, or get in four quarters of Madden 2001. These controllers have come a long way from those Atari 2600 joysticks. Robsta throws a whopping 9 points for his first impression of the PX4000. What a great way to start! |

Game(s) Included |
ZWORM |
No games here which is typical of PX controllers. In my eyes this is neither good nor bad, so I feel that a '5' is appropriate. |

This category is a tough one, since there are not to many controllers that have games with them. However, this will be something for companies to think about for the future releases of controllers. Robsta will give the PX4000 5 points here - keeping in mind that this will not reflect much on the total score. |

Looks |
ZWORM |
This unit just looks cool. In Saitek's manual they claim the 'Saitek PX4000 offers a fusion of the latest technology with top-of-the range styling' and I couldn't agree more. |

The creators at Saitek did a fantastic job with this piece. I like the notches cut out of the handles by each joystick. The oval plastic molding where the cord comes out looks really cool. Considering that I spend more time looking at the screen than a controller, the points will still keep coming. Robsta 'looks' at 8 points racking up on the board for the PX4000. |

Comfort |
ZWORM |
Above average. Saitek was thoughtful enough to include some rubber on the mini-sticks, but a little on the grips and action pad would be nice. Lack of rubber aside, I feel that this pad's buttons and triggers are perfectly placed for the size of my paws. |

This is a very important part of gaming. The more comfortable you are, the more hours you can put in on your favorite chair! Doesn’t that sound like fun? The first round on the PX4000 was a good five hours. My eyes were burning, my shoulders were aching, but my hands were ready for a little ATV Off Road Fury. Robsta comfortably pushes a button worth 8 points for the PX4000 to keep a good score rolling. |

Construction |
ZWORM |
Saitek has always proven to me that their products are well constructed and the PX4000 stays true to the family name. This unit looks and feels like it could survive a 48 hour Madden 2001 marathon after being labeled a bucket of fried chicken at a weight loss convention. Tough indeed! |

Again the creator at Saitek have developed a great work of art. The PX4000 is heavy for a controller - which means that it should be very sturdy in case it gets dropped, stepped on, or thrown across the room because of a bone head mistake on 4th down and inches… you don't need to hear the rest of that story. The extra long 10 foot cord is a must for us gamers who can't sit still while they are pushing multiple buttons at the same time. Robsta will build 13 points for construction for the PX4000 - as it maintains a great score with three categories remaining. |

Playability |
ZWORM |
Overall the pad played well. The buttons were very crisp and responsive. I experienced great fluid gameplay when using the mini-sticks, but I felt the action pad just didn't feel right. I occasionally found myself distracted by a lack of responsiveness in the pad, but that might just be an issue where breaking the product in is enough to cure this product of this minor inconvenience. I'll be sure to keep this gamepad 'in test' for the next few months so that I can 'research' this issue out a little more. |

The PX4000 is one of the few controllers that I have used with an 8 way D-pad. It was tough at first, getting used to the round D-pad verses the traditional 4 way D-pad. It all went out the door when I won the first game of Madden 2001 (come back win). I have yet to find an all purpose controller with a throttle wheel on it. This was a great idea, and it didn't take very long to get the hang of it. It seemed to be easier on the big tracks like Daytona or Talledega. The short tracks seemed to be a little bit more touchy. Just ask Dale Jarrett when I sent him stumbling down the front stretch at Richmond at least 5 or 6 times. The good thing about video games… everyone walks away. Oh well, I finished 2nd in the season so it wasn't a total loss. What does it take to beat that 24 car anyway?!!
As far as the rest of the controller goes, the turbo button works like most other turbo buttons. The analog options are great for racing games. The circle that is recessed around the right side buttons seems deeper than other controllers I have used, which makes it easy to feel each individual button. Robsta says all of this boils down to a 13 point score to continue the onslaught of points this PX4000 is putting up on the board. |

Value (price for what you get) |
ZWORM |
For a product to score above '10' in this category I feel it is important for a controller to last longer than the pad it replaces and to stay under thirty bucks. At an MSRP of $29.95 USD I feel that the PX4000 more than fits the bill. If you throw in all of the added features, then the PX4000 warrants a perfect score in the value category. |

Saitek must have had this category in their heads when they made this controller. They sure packed a lot of punch into their PX4000. While maintaining the usual PS2 controller shape, having a thumb operated throttle wheel, turbo button, analog controls, and a 10 foot cord that will also plug into my original Playstation console. All this for a great price… wow that is a smokin' deal! Robsta has no choice but to give the PX4000 14 points for value shooting their score up even more. |

Recommend to Others |
ZWORM |
If you want a game pad that has the features for just about any game on the market and the durability of a Sherman tank, then the Saitek PX4000 just might be for you. If you want something that forces you out of the house and into a life, well I just can't help you out there. Try a girlfriend. |

All of my friends know how much of a gamer I am. We are always talking about the latest games and controllers. Unfortunately there are more different games available to us than controllers. The PX4000 will definitely be brought up in many up and coming video discussions. This controller must be used to appreciate it. Robsta will recommend 14 points for this category. This brings the total to 84 points out of a possible 1000 points. Robsta's point of view… any controller over 80 points is worth trying. |
