LAZ 11/15/2000  - I reviewed this controller with The House of the Dead 2, and nobody in our house could put it away. The old 'taking turns' thing just wasn't working. So I had to kick everybody out and tell them that dad had to 'get to work' on a review (I will use this line for every advantage I can). Everyone in the house gave this controller a big thumbs up! The biggest downside to having this controller in our house has been my lack of sleep (I can't get my wife to stop playing and go to bed)!

LAZ Review Breakdown 72
First Impression The first thing I did was - grabbed that sucker. I whipped it around targeting everything in the room... I was ready to shoot something! 7.0
Game(s) Included None. A common occurance, but I like to see a game that shows what the controller can do. 5.0
Looks The one thing I would like see improve in this controller - I would like the controller to look more like some kind of mean weapon. After all, I am out there blowing away anything that moves - so I would like to think the last thing the character I am blowing away saw was me holding some bad looking hunk of steel. Instead this controller looks like a kid's toy. Now that sounds pretty harsh, and we should not hold this against InterAct. I imagine the designers sitting in a room thinking the same kind of thoughts I just described, and some lawyer walks in the room and says that they don't want someone to be playing a video game in their living room and get blown away by some police officer who thought the controller was a real weapon. Well, that is sad and I am just speculating how I think things could have gone. However, I have to be true to the review and if you are going to make a specialty item it has a purpose... to make the game more life like. Part of the experience is to make a controller look like a weapon, so I have to score it lower - but read on because this category got me depressed about a subject that none of us can do anything about. 5.0
Comfort Ok, so I bashed this controller's looks... at least it makes up for the looks in comfort. The controller feels very good during operation. The reload trigger was placed in a location that made it easy to operate. 8.0
Construction InterAct makes their controllers durable, and this controller tolerated everyone abusing the day lights out of it... it has been very popular around my house. 11.5
Playability This controller was great to play with. It was accurate, and the multiple configurations enabled me to play individual games with the options that I wanted. When I wanted to be a precision marksman, I could do the manual single shot, manual reload. When I wanted to "kick butt and take names" I could blow anything away with the auto-fire auto-reload features. These options game me all the control, and that's the way I like it! 12.5
Value (price for what you get) This is a great price for a specialty controller, and well worth the investment. 12.0
Recommend to Others I would not play a shooting game without a specialty controller, and this controller is an excellent choice. 11.0

RECOMMENDATIONS to the Vendor

LAZ

  • If there is anyway to make this thing look meaner, I would suggest "mean it up".  It is a gun and it has a purpose... to blow stuff away.
  • I would like to have some kind of rubber grip on the handle.
  • Try to get the software guys to make more games to take advantage of a controller like this (paint ball would be fun, and harder for people to get upset about shooting people full of paint).
