11/10/2000 - A gamepad that can function nicely as a wheel, flight stick, shooter, or mouse? Are they serious?... yes they are and yes it can! In the past gamepads just haven't been able to come close to moving out of their arena, but this gamepad functions very admirably in all categories - and I even used it as an aid in Photoshop, and it worked great!

First Impression |
I was skeptical. Why not just settle for an inexpensive gamepad and save my money for something else?... that's what you might think. But then when I saw it, I thought how did they pack all of that into one controller? Just looking at it makes you want to pick it up; picking it up makes you want to play with it; playing with it makes you want to stay up all night. |

Software Installation |
The software installation went smooth, and the paper manual included easy to follow instructions with several pictures to help along the way. My install was 9.04 meg, which raises the expectations of the controller interface. |

Software Controller Interface |
This controller interface was very good, and extremely easy to use. My "hunt and click" method of finding out how to make it worked, served me well as I played with all of the options. And when I say options, I mean options. By design the controller is packed, and the interface compliments the controller well. You can record multiple moves and assign them to any button. |

Game Included |
None. I was told that this controller ships with a special version of Interplay® Games' Descent™ 3: Sol Ascent. I did not find a game in the box, so I neither deducted or added but gave it an average score. This score could improve if/when I get the game. |

Help Instructions |
The paper manual instructions were easy to read, included pictures, and worked. When you have a controller interface that has several options, I would like to see integrated help throughout the controller interface - with each screen having a help button that could take me step-by-step through the screen I am on. Now, having said that - a very nice Windows oriented help screen is included (with excellent pictures) and you can open the Controller Profiler and their help screen, allowing you to view your help and make your corrections. |

Comfort |
This gamepad fit me nicely. I am not sure that it would be real comfortable for the tiny children of the house, but this gamepad's options would be a bit for the most tiny kids anyway. The advantage of having a gamepad that is configurable, is that if you don't like the location of a particular function, you can reassign it to another button. The Rumble force action is very cool and it really helps separate this kind of gamepad from the pack. I also think the Rumble technology raises the bar for all game controllers, after playing with a Rumbler - it would be hard to not at least have the option to turn it on or off. |

Construction (Quality) |
The controller is very good. All of the buttons and handles have a nice feel - and wreak of good quality. I think it was great that this gamepad doubles as a Gameport and USB - it gets old buying a controller that only works on my latest technology machines, causing my kids to look at me with puppy dog eyes begging for a computer upgrade. |

Looks |
The see through plastic case brings out the kid's curiosity in me - you just have to pick it up and look to see how this thing works. I really like to see inside. I like to think that I have fair artistic taste, and I really liked the styling and font graphics they used. |

Value (price for what you get) |
How can you argue with spending less than $40 and getting all that this gamepad has to offer? It is a lot of controller for the money. |

Recommend to Others |
Here is how I sum up this gamepads multiple functionality: Gamepad - very good, Wheel - adequate, Flight - adequate, Shooter - adequate, Mouse - adequate. It is a very good gamepad that can adequately enable you to play all types of games. Don't take adequate for - sucks... I mean most gamepads cannot begin to operate in other arenas like Wheels and Flight - and this gamepad can do it very nicely. I am not saying it is better than a good Wheel or Flightstick in those arenas, but if you are on a budget and/or only want to have one controller sitting around - a strong case can be made for this one. |

RECOMMENDATIONS to the Vendor
LAZ
-
Integrate the help with the profiler - maybe make it context capable, so if you
click help it opens the Windows style help and goes to the appropriate location.
-
It would be great if you could get power to that controller, so it wouldn't need
batteries.
