Name:  INFOGRAMES - Test Drive Off Road Wide Open

Xbox

INFOGRAMES Description:
Live the dream. Feel the rush. Win the race!

Test Drive Off-Road — Wide Open gives you brute force off-road racing through nature's untamed badlands. Twelve kick-ass trucks fight for off-road supremacy in the wide open wilderness. Prove your skills in a Hummer, Dodge T-Rex, Ford Bronco, and more. Take towering jumps at high speeds in your unstoppable trucks. Grab your guts and hold on, because this one gets rough!

New for Wide Open, you can go anywhere you want in three exotic locales: Yosemite, California; Big Island of Hawaii; and Moab, Utah. Dozens of tracks criss-cross these vast environments, providing a wide variety of racing challenges. Better yet, you can take rugged shortcuts across open terrain to reach the finish line in first place! Along the way, don't be surprised to literally run into hundreds of interactive obstacles, and get physical with your competition!

Leveraging the full power of the PlayStation 2, Wide Open sports super-realistic graphics with expansive draw distances. The power of the PS2 also makes heavy-duty physics and AI possible, giving Wide Open a chance to explore deeper gameplay than any other off-road racing game ever.

PEETE 1/21/2002  - This game was radical. You get all these options to choose from like, cars, tracks, etc. The reality of the game comes straight to your TV set. It has 14 songs from big bands. The features are pretty incredible. It's like being in a real car driving. The action in the game is insane, and it has a wide selection to choose from. If you’re looking for a game that’s fun and has lots of adventure, this is just the game for you.

Off Roadin' On the X 87.6
First Impression My first impression was that it was just another driving game, but after the car menu came up my eyes opened wide. It leaves little detail for you to imagine; the cars are so lifelike. The weather effects are amazing. It has everything from waterfalls, to rockslides, to lava flows. It has most of the major truck companies like Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Jeep, and many more. It makes me fill so much closer to driving a real car; it's about as close as I can get. The water looks real, the trees and the grass look real. Your car even gets dirty. How amazing is that? 9.0
Configurable Options When the menu first comes up, you choose what driving mode you want to drive in - like Career Race, Stadium Race, Multi-player, and Free Roam. Then you choose your car and whether it's stock, modified, or pro. Then you choose your color out of a wide selection. Then you choose where you want to drive like Utah, Yosemite, California, Big Island, and Hawaii. You can have 1-4 players. The race types you can choose from are Circuit Race where you must go through all the checkpoints in a pre-determined order for two or more laps; in Blitz Race you go through a series of checkpoints in a certain order that become activated when you pass through a series of checkpoints in a certain order that become activated when you pass through each one. In Scramble Race you have to go through every checkpoint in a random order. 9.0
Graphics These graphics are amazing. It has a heads up display with the time, navigation arrow, number of checkpoints or laps, a gear indicator, a tachometer, a speedometer, your position in the race, and a map. It looks like your really driving outside. The great graphics really pull you into the game. You feel like you’re in that place, and in the car. It has moble homes, double slugbugs and many more other cars that you have to drive around if you want to win. You have to drive careful because you never know whats coming your way whether it's a forest fire, a rock slide, or even a volcano erupting (they did a great job on the lava). 9.6
Sound The sounds are so realistic like the sounds of the motor revving, your wheels squeeling when you’re going around a corner too fast, and the sound when you hit a tree (I know this sound well). When you fall in the water it makes a noise.

Music The music included on the CD range from Metallica, Fear Factor, Digital Assasins, 303 Infinity, and more.

Game Play / Beginner Thru Advanced In beginner mode it's easy (even for a kid), and in advanced the stakes are much higher – and much harder. You need to choose your vehicle wisely, or you won't make it up those big hills. You need to have a strong car. You can drive in Moab where it's very rocky and has lots and I mean lots of hills. In Yosemite National Part you will find water falls, and you better be on alert because it has a big forest fire with fire trucks trying to take care of the fire. In Hawaii you can drive down to the beach to go drive in the water, then go down to the base of a volcano that's erupting! 13.8
Multi-player You can have 1 - 4 players. You can stadium race where you go in a stadium and race each other, or in free roam where you roam around without going through checkpoints and just race around with each other. In one player mode you have a full screen. In two player mode it's half screen, in three player mode you have three boxes and in four player mode you have four boxes. 12.8
Value (price for what you get) This game is better than any other off road racing game I've ever played. It has a lot of good things going for it, especially the real looking graphics. 12.0
Recommend to Others If you like driving games, this is your game. It's full of excitement, and again has a lot of potential going for it because of the graphics. 13.4
